A Sideward Pushing Puzzle Streaming Time and Space in Confinement
3 puzzles: 42" x 42" x 2.25" each with 48 unique drawings per puzzle
Wood, metal 2010
Composed of 3 large-scale slider puzzles, this is an interactive wall piece composed of 144 5"x5" maple wood blocks. Magnetically held in place in stained beech frames, each block is an engraved replica of my stream of consciousness pen and ink drawings on ceramic tile seconds. The project is a magnification of the small plastic slider puzzles of the past. The audience can slide the detailed, textural pictures to create changing visual stories. The compositions will never complete a predictable image; they are not meant to. The piece reflects on the power of the subconscious and the reality of choice. Slideways was funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council (Portland, OR) in 2010. Puzzles are available for sale individually.
